ACT Career Services works closely with the business community to support Boone County businesses with meeting their recruitment and retention needs. In a job market characterized by high worker mobility, businesses are often faced with the high cost of advertising, recruiting, and training new employees. Utilizing ACT Career Services yields immediate benefits to a business by cutting down on recruitment costs. ACT refers qualified job candidates matched to the positions businesses need to fill. Services provided to our business partners include: evaluation of open positions to streamline employee referral, a larger, more diverse pool of potential employees, support for on-boarding and training of the employee, consultation on job accommodations and the ADA, and many more.

Boone County Family Resources serves persons of all ages and income levels with a diagnosed developmental disability who reside in Boone County. The City of Columbia’s Career Awareness Related Experience (C.A.R.E.) Program’s goal is for Columbia’s youth to be ready to enter the workforce and become productive, self-sufficient citizens.  Since 1982, the C.A.R.E. program has provided comprehensive services for Columbia’s at-risk youth that include: job readiness training, paid real-world hands-on work experience, mentoring, career exploration, and money management training. The C.A.R.E. program hires at-risk 14 to 20-year-olds who live in the City of Columbia, MO and/or attend a Columbia, MO school and places them at local businesses, where they gain much needed real-world hands-on work experience while getting paid.  One hundred percent of the trainees’ wages are paid by C.A.R.E., which is administered through the Columbia Parks and Recreation Department.

EnCircle Technologies is a nonprofit that trains adults with autism for technology jobs. We have students who are looking for experience and work in web design, programming, data entry, video editing and office work. We also contract with companies for in-house, work-based experience for our students to help them build their portfolios. We can do websites, video editing, data entry, and are open to other technical based work.

GAMM works in conjunction with the Central Region Workforce Investment Board (C-WIB) and the Division of Workforce Development (www.jobs.mo.gov) to help individuals find employment and/or become prepared to enter the workforce. Missouri workforce system staff are located in Job Centers around the state to help job seekers find quality jobs and employers find qualified workers.

Missouri Job Centers offer free use of computers, printers, copiers, fax machines and phones for your job search activities. Assistive technology is also available, including: WindowEyes screen reader, ZoomText screen enlarger, CCTV, and eight adjustable tables for individuals with disabilities. TTY service and Ubiduo™ devices are available to assist the deaf and hard of hearing.

Missouri Vocational Rehabilitation (MVR) specializes in employment services that assist eligible individuals with disabilities in obtaining and maintaining employment.  To be eligible, a person must have a physical or mental impairment that causes limitations with working and require vocational rehabilitation services to be successfully employed. MVR offers a wide range of services that are individualized to meet the needs of each person. Services may include vocational guidance and counseling, job placement and job training.  MVR also provides assistance with supported employment services, on-the-job training and assistive technology services. A counselor will assist in the development of a vocational plan and provide information so that individuals have informed choices regarding their employment. MVR operates under the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and has 25 offices statewide.

Missouri Rehabilitation and Employment Group (MORE Group) is a Community Rehabilitation Provider that provides employment services to persons with disabilities seeking to enter the workforce. We are a nationally accredited, non-profit organization serving the mid-Missouri area. We offer expertise in employment services, vocational counseling, human resources, psychometric testing and benefits planning. MORE Group opened its doors in Columbia, MO, in January 2009 and, though we are a young company and small by most standards, staff collectively has over 90 years of experience in the field of vocational rehabilitation. In 2010 we became CARF accredited. February 2012 saw the opening of our second office in Jefferson City, MO. We started MORE Group because we believed we could provide services not just differently but more effectively and efficiently. In the short time we’ve been operational, we have done exactly that.

The mission of the Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders at the University of Missouri- Columbia is to improve the lives of individuals and families affected by autism and neurodevelopmental disorders through world class programs that integrate research, clinical service delivery, education and public policy.The Thompson Center provides a range of services, including our Training Experts in Autism for Missouri (TEAM)initiative which provides FREE training and follow-up support to professionals working with individuals with autism. Trainings are available for professionals, such as job coaches or employers, with supports and tools specific to each location. A new Autism Friendly Business training has also been launched to help businesses become more welcoming to individuals and families affected by autism. By the fall of 2016, the Thompson Center will be starting a transition specific service for adults with autism to gain employment.
